JULY 7th - SAVE THE DATE
It's just about Tocci Family Reunion Time!
Thanks to Glenn, we have a spot reserved for the reunion so mark your calendars:
SATURDAY, JULY 7th
11am-5pm
American Legion - Post 40
Plymouth, MA
It's the same place we had it last time, but we'll post directions and such closer to the date. We just want to get this on your calendar for now and start the contact process.
There are still things to be determined and we need your help in deciding which way to go. In other words - INPUT, people - input! We do not want this to be a dictatorship, nor do a few of us want to do all of the work. We want it to be fun for everyone so we value your input.
Ok, here is what we need help on.
Contacts in each family. If you are here, most likely you got an email from me directing you here. If you are here and didn't get an email from me, leave a comment and I'll email you directly - then I'll have your email address.
If you got the email and noticed that there is someone missing on the list or there is an old email for them, please tell them about the date and give them my email so they can send me a note and get on the list. Or send them here to read all of this information and they can leave their own comments and email address.
Food. This is probably the single most talked about item in our family. We love food, right? All kinds of food. Well, we have an issue with the food at the reunion. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Last time, if you remember, we all brought something and the food was fabulous - more than fabulous, actually. Bringing the food wasn't the issue - still isn't. Cooking, for most people in this family, is like breathing.
The issue is that managing the food on-site is a full time production - organizing it when it comes in, heating it up...heating up more things....and then packing up the food etc. The committee does not mind taking turns doing this, but we need some help so that we aren't in the kitchen for the whole reunion and don't get to mingle. Ok, who am I kidding? I didn't take a turn in the kitchen either, but if this is the option we are going with, I will - gladly, so that I can stuff myself with some more of Auntie Rosalie's biscotti. :)
Because...the second food option is this...we hire a caterer. The hall works with a couple of caterers that Glenn has contacted for pricing. One does a clam bake type thing and the other does the regular grill items (hamburger, hotdogs, chicken etc). If we do that, we can still bring our own desserts...(ok, so I'm safe with the biscotti...).
So...to recap. Two options with food. Option 1 - we all bring something, like last time only this time we ask for volunteers to work for an hour a piece in the kitchen in teams (that way nobody is in there for the whole time). Option 2 - we hire a caterer and only bring our own desserts and nobody 'works' the food.
Time to vote....leave your comments here or send me an email. If you vote option 1, please let me know that you will volunteer, too, and we'll set up a schedule (pairing folks with family or friends, too, of course).
Cookbook. Apparently, some family members...ehem, ED.....KAREN....didn't share all of their family recipies the first time around, but they would like to now. We'd like to do the Tocci Family Cookbook volume 2. Sharon is working on an easy form that we can fill out to contribute recipies. Stay tuned...that will come shortly.
Entertainment. Glenn is going to bring his karaoke machine again. Any other suggestions?
We made the decision not to do t-shirts this time around, or a photo CD or a family tree. It's just too much work. But, if you'd like to display new photos (there are at least two new family members since the last reunion) or something similar at the reunion, let us know and we'll work it out.
Suggestions? We want any and all suggestions!!! Do not be shy. If you don't want to voice your opinion here for everyone to see (chicken!) then email me directly dmtocci@aol.com
Watch this space because there will be a lot more information coming out as we get closer to the reunion. We'll need to get numbers of folks planning on attending (you can always tell me now) and talk pricing (will depend on which food option) etc.
OH, if you want to join the committee, please do! We will be having a meeting very soon at Ed's house. Let me know if you want to come and I'll add you to the meeting list! We will be happy to have you! (Wayne...did I see you raise your hand???)
Hope everyone is well. We are all looking forward to seeing you in July!!!
The committee:
Ed, Glenn, Pam, Sharon, Cheryl, Karen, Nadine, Rose and the 2 Donnas.
UPDATE: We need to start getting a head count so as you are adding your comments here, please let us know if you are going to attend.

Hi Donna I didn't get an e-mail! We have a third option. There's a deli in town that will cook any Italian dish we want or we can bring a dish and he will heat it up. He wants to know what kind of food we want and then he will give us a price. So put a list together but keep it simple by offering a few items but in quantity like a pasta dish, lasagne, macaroni and meatballs chicken with fettuccine in an alfredo sauce. Maybe some sausage with peppers and onions. Hey maybe we could do baked stuff manicotti or linguine with a pesto sauce or veal, chicken, or egg plant parmesan. Or possibly all three! A ravioli stuffed with spinach and cream cheese might be nice or gnocchi (that's my favorite).Al might want tortellini soup in case it's cool that day but keep it simple.
Thank you for the update Donna. I can't believe three years have passed by alredy. I just marked my calander for July 7.
Another issue we need to address is, maybe forming a small clean up committe. With 4 or 5 people all pitching in, cleaning off the tables and empting all the trash will take no time.
It sounded like someone was a bit hungry when posting that last comment.
Rose and Ed Tocci Sr. will attend.
Nadine and Ed Tocci Jr. will attend.
My opinion about the food is this;
If we hire a caterer,no matter how good,no one will be happy.I can hear it now,"my eggplant is better than that","Rose's stuffed peppers are much better ",This guy can't make pizza like Ed does","the clams are over done" etc.,etc. You get the idea.
We all grew up and learned from some of the best cooks on the planet, why settle for something less?
It's not a big deal for everyone to make one dish. Most of the Tocci's can whip up a 7 course meal in under 10 minutes.
Why not bring our own food and hire kitchen help to warm the food and serve it?
This HAS to be less expensive than hiring a caterer and that way no one has to be stuck in the kitchen.Anyone who brings a dish can simply tape a piece of paper on top of the dish with instructions for heating it up and/or serving it.
I'm sure the facility has contacts for available kitchen help.
That's my $.02 worth.

Hi Donna,
I got the email and will be attending. I opt for suppling the food and hiring someone to heat up and clean up. I don't if everyone will be watching their watches for their "shift" in the kitchen. Just my opion. I agree that homemade food is the best as long we aren't stuck in the kitchen.
Thanks,
Cheryl
